Brisbane Rugby League 1984 season
1984 was a long and slightly complicated season. Peter Jackson played 30 games for Souths. David Green played 28 for Wynnum. This was because:
- the Woolies Cup, hitherto a preseason tournament, was integrated into the premiership season. Rounds one to four of the premiership doubled as the qualifying rounds of the cup, with two semi-finals played on 28 March, and a final on 1 April.
- while not premiership fixtures, the Woolies Cup finals are deemed equivalent to premiership matches (note: the Woolies Cup was not the same thing as the Woolies Trophy, the successor to the mid-season league cup final previously known as the President’s Cup, which was played later in the season)
- the inequity between city and regional teams in the State League resulted in more games between Brisbane clubs in that competition. Rounds five to seven of the premiership doubled as intra-Brisbane State League games, with semi-finals on 20 May and the final on 23 May
- Brisbane clubs also played some games against regional teams in the State League, alongside the premiership season returning to a full 21-game schedule.
