The 1916 Brisbane Rugby League season is now live on Redcap’s BRL. See how Western Suburbs took their first Barry Cup by reversing the previous year’s result and winning the Challenge Final over Valleys.
The 1916 season included the Starlights and West End clubs from the Ipswich competition, with many local players having enlisted in the armed services and the Ipswich league unable to proceed. Both teams qualified for the semi-finals after last-minute entries and slow starts, though West End did ultimately forfeit their knockout match against Valleys.
